Well, it depends on what kind you are using. Many you purchase in stores are extremely toxic and keep you visiting a dentist routinely. More money for them, interesting.
Look for these toxic ingredients used to make commercial-brand toothpaste

In 2012, researchers from Harvard School of Public Health and China Medical University found a strong connection that fluoride may negatively affect cognitive development in children.
There is still so much that science admits they do not know about the effects of fluoride and we should be cautious about adding it to our diets.
After doing some extensive research I discovered back in a 2006 study by the US National Research Council of the National Academies found much evidence that fluoride affects normal endocrine function.
The endocrine is a system of glands that help control many functions within the body by releasing hormones. Such functions help determine how your heart beats, and how your bones develop and grow, to name a few.
Next time you purchase your toothpaste make sure it is fluoride-free.
Flouride is a toxic ingredient
Excessive fluoride intake can lead to several health issues. While fluoride is beneficial for dental health in small amounts, too much of it can cause problems such as:
- Dental fluorosis: This condition is characterized by changes in the appearance of tooth enamel, often seen as white spots or lines, and occurs in young children exposed to high levels of fluoride before their permanent teeth have fully formed.
- Skeletal fluorosis: A rare but serious condition where high levels of fluoride accumulate in the bones over time, leading to joint stiffness, weakened bones, and an increased risk of fractures.
- Thyroid problems: Excessive fluoride can damage the parathyroid gland, leading to hyperparathyroidism, which can result in depleted calcium in bones and higher calcium levels in the blood, making bones more prone to fractures.

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) is a toxic ingredient
What do they try to say to make it sound safe?
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is often an ingredient in toothpaste because it creates foam, which provides several benefits.
The foam created by SLS helps to remove food debris along with your brushing, and it helps active ingredients like fluoride make contact with your teeth
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate can cause skin irritation and can aggravate an aphthous ulcer.
In a preliminary study by the Department of Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine patients using a paste containing SLS over 3 months, patients had significantly more ulcers after the trial.
Alternatively, when the patients switched to an SLS-free paste, the number of ulcers reduced drastically.
Applying SLS to your gums in the form of toothpaste could therefore result in gum irritation. And for those suffering from mouth ulcers, this could worsen the symptoms further. I would just avoid SLS in toothpaste altogether.
Propylene Glycol is toxic
Propylene glycol is used to improve a product’s shelf life, appearance, and texture. In large quantities, propylene glycol has been linked to damage to the central nervous system, liver, and heart.
For individuals who have kidney or liver disease, these effects can be more severe as the breakdown process might not be as simple.
Propylene glycol can be found in items we use daily like cosmetics, flavorings, toothpaste, and prescription drugs.
Artificial Sweeteners are toxic

Natural DIY Toothpaste Recipe
Ingredients for my new & improved homemade infused toothpaste:
- 3 tbsp of cloves
- 2 fresh cinnamon sticks,
- 1.5 cups of sesame seed oil
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1 tbsp of baking soda
- 1 tsp of turmeric powder set to the side for later.
Directions:
- Take your cloves, garlic sliced, cinnamon sticks, and oil and put them in a pot, keep the temperature on low for 1 hour. This takes the eugenol, eugenol, acetate, and caryophyllene from the cloves and adds them to the sesame oil.
This also takes the antibacterial properties out of the garlic and into the oil. This is chemistry so you end up with a safe medication as well.
- After that put your oil in a mason jar with a lid. Take your turmeric and baking soda and mix them together in a separate glass jar. Set aside.
Ingredients for mouthwash:
- 2 tbsp of pink Himalayan salt
- 2 cups of quality water boiled
- 1 tsp of ginger
- 1 tsp of Manuka honey.
Directions:
- Take your pink Himalayan salt and allow it to dissolve in your hot quality water, add in your ginger and your Manuka honey. Place in a mason jar with a lid. The salt acts as a preservative so you don’t need to refrigerate it, but you can.
- First gurgle with the salt water for about a good 3-4 minutes, swishing the solution all around and in between your teeth. After that take 1 tbsp of oil and mix it with 1tsp of your turmeric and baking soda solution.
